Adolescent Suicide: Are There Warning Signs?

Adolescent depression and attempted suicide are increasing, and nurses are at the frontline of assessing risk factors for suicide and adolescent warning signs to intervene early and appropriately. Nurses should employ depression and suicide assessment strategies in outpatient settings where adolescents obtain their primary health care. Inpatient and outpatient treatment options for adolescents who are at risk for suicide should be identified, so nurses can make appropriate referrals for the adolescent as needed.
