Patricia Ryan-Krause

Gardening is a global activity that creates great beauty and provides numerous opportunities to enhance development and promote physical and emotional wellbeing in children of all ages. Child development theory and practical activities are discussed using a developmental perspective. Potential roles of parents, nurses, early caregivers, and teachers in facilitating social, language and motor development, and physical and mental health are discussed. A detailed description of ways pediatric nurses in a variety of settings can engage children and families in gardening activities is included.
